Ronald L. Burk, DVM, MS, MBA Diplomate, ACVR
Radiology, Radiation Oncology
Dr. Burk received his DVM from Purdue University, served his internship at the Henry Bergh Memorial Hospital of the ASPCA in New York City and completed his Masters degree and Residency in Veterinary Radiology at the University of Missouri. The American College of Veterinary Radiology has certified him in both Diagnostic Radiology (1978)and Radiation Oncology (1994-the first year certification was possible). Dr.Burk has authored over 50 scientific articles, served as an editor or reviewer for numerous publications, and is the senior author of "Veterinary Radiology; A Diagnostic Atlas and Text"-currently in its third addition.
Dr Burk served as Chief of Radiology and Radiation Oncology as well as Assistant Chief of Staff at the Animal Medical Center in New York from 1978 through 1991. Dr. Burk helped form and has served as Chief of Staff of VSSF since 1994.
Dr. Burk interacts with the other specialists of the Veterinary Specialists of South Florida and offers diagnostic imaging services (including magnetic resonance (MR) scanning, Spiral Computed Tomography (CT) scanning, advance ultrasound (including Doppler and tissue Doppler scans), and fluoroscopy), interventional procedures, advanced radiation therapy for cancer, and radioiodine therapy for feline hyperthyroidism. |
James R. Cook, DVM, Ph.D., Diplomate ACVIM
Neurology, Neurosurgery
Dr. Cook received his DVM from Ohio State University, served his internship at the Veterinary Hospital for Special Services in Mt Kisco,New York and completed his Ph.D. and residency at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Cook taught both neurology and general internal medicine at both The University of Georgia and Purdue University for 11 years.
Dr. Cook's practice is limited to neurology and neurosurgery. |

Michael G. Aronsohn, VMD, Diplomate ACVS
Surgery
Dr. Aronsohn received his VMD and completed his surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania.
He was a staff surgeon and later the Director of Surgery at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston and a clinical associate Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Aronsohn is a General Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgeon with a special interest in oncologic surgery. He also performs minimally invasive/intrusive surgery including laparoscopic and thorascopic procedures. |
Peter Bondy, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM
Internal Medicine
Dr. Bondy is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. After receiving hi B.A. from Tulane University of Mississippi-Columbia, Dr. Bondy's internship was completed right here at VSSF. He then went back to Missouri where he earned a Master of Science Degree and successfully completed a Residency in small animal medicine. Peter became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After practicing internal medicine in New Orleans for one year, he has returned to South Florida along with his three dogs.
Dr. Bondy had authored publications on cytauxzoonosis and steroid therapy, and he has done research on canine nasal disease. His interests are diverse and include endocrinology, gastrointestinal disease/endoscopy, and infectious diseases. Dr. Bondy is available internal medicine referrals by appointment Monday through Friday, and will accommodate emergencies whenever possible. |

Nick Schroeder DVM, Diplomate ACVIM
Cardiology & Pulmonology
Dr. Schroeder completed his internship with us in 2003. He then earned a residency position in cardiology with Dr. Steve Ettinger at the California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. Schroeder successfully achieved board-certified status in 2006. He sees referral appointments for cardiac and pulmonary disease, Monday through Friday. |
David Spranklin, DVM, Diplomate ACVS
Surgery
Dr. David Spranklin joins our surgery department after completing a residency in small animal surgery at Washington State University. His practice is limited to surgery, with a special interest in surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgeries including arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and thoracoscopy. |

Lisa DiBernardi, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Oncology), ACVR (Rad Onc)
Oncology
Dr. DiBernardi graduated LSU with the class of 1999 and then went on to do the first of two residencies in oncology; one at Purdue University in medical oncology and a second at LSU in radiation oncology.
Dr DiBernardi is one of only a very few oncologists who is board certified in both medical and radiation oncology. |

Brian Daubs, DVM
Dr. Daubs received his doctorate in veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota. He then went to Mississippi State University to complete a small animal rotating internship. He arrived in Florida in 2006 and completed a small animal surgical internship here; currently he is a small animal surgical resident. He has an interest in research and previous projects involve osteoarthritis, pain management, bone allografts, humeral fractures, liver disease, and urinary stones. He is currently looking at the prognostic value of serum lactate in certain disease processes. |

Michelle Carnes, D.V.M., M.S.
Dr. Carnes received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University in 2004. She then went on to complete a rotating internship at the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 2005, Dr. Carnes returned to Auburn University to complete a 3-year residency in neurology/neurosurgery. At that time she also earned a Masters degree in Biomedical Science with a research focus on novel drug therapy for seizure management in cats. Her professional interests include craniotomies (brain surgery for tumor removal and Chiari-like malformation/syringohydromyelia) and spinal surgery. | |
